Review of the Every Other Week - Grand Theft Auto : San Andreas

So I figured with the reveal of Grand Theft Auto V I'd make this review. By the way, if you don't remember, I totally fucking called that it'd be in San Andreas, DID I NOT!? Yeah anyhow... I've been playing the shit out of San Andreas recently and I have to say that it's easily one of the top ten best games ever made. This is the apex of the Grand Theft Auto series so far. It has everything. And the pc edition still has tons of mods that no one knows about. You could play this game for years. And honestly, I have been.

A- Atmosphere
G- Gameplay
G- Graphics
S- Sound

A- As I'm sure you all know, Grand Theft Auto San Andreas is set in the 90's in a fictional mock up of Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Las Vegas. This game does atmosphere insanely well. From the smoggy look of LA , to the sound track, to the cars, even the current events (Berlin wall coming down). Everything in this game reeks of the 90's. Not only that, this game is fun, plain and simple. The characters are colorful, memorable, and funny. You play as CJ. He's returning to the city of Los Santos to attend his mother's funeral. Upon arrival you're greeted by a corrupt cop named Tenpenney(voiced by Samuel Jackson) and his goons. They leave you in Ballas(your rival gang)territory and you have to ride a stolen bicycle home. It only gets more colorful from here on out. CJ goes on a quest to strengthen his gang and his ties with his family and homies. All of the characters you meet along the way are hilarious and perfectly voiced.  -10/10
Carl Johnson looking deceptively intimidating..

G- There is tons of stuff to do in San Andreas. There's an insane amount of missions and side missions and a whole bunch of places to spend your hard earned cash at. This game has everything. You can buff up your character or make him unnecessarily fat. You can put Nos and a bass system in your car or pimp out a low-rider with hydraulics. They also implemented a few rpg like features in this entry, like the ability to upgrade your driving skill and motorbike and regular bike skills making it harder for you to fall off of your bike or easier to powerslide corners. One of my favorite features is the ability to upgrade your skill with guns. The more you use a certain gun the better you'll get at using it. Once you reach "hitman" level with it you get a special talent with it. Usually it has to do with dual wielding. Either way, the weapon features are all nice. Now, I was playing this with a keyboard and mouse, so I cannot attest to the console controls, but the shooting in this game is actually pretty fun. It's easy enough to hit your targets and with a game this gigantic and detailed, that's all that really matters. I cannot fathom actually getting a 100 percent completion rating in this game. I've been playing since 2004 spanning multiple consoles and I always come back to re-visit it every year or so. And with the pc mods that are available, I doubt I'll ever not come back to it. -10/10
Yep, a Solid Snake skin for Cj. Courtesy of a man named : Beeswax. Can be found here.

G- Now you may think that this may be the only part where the game as a whole suffers. But in my honest opinion it doesn't. Sure the graphics by now are dated, but for it's time it was really good. The world is huge AND detailed. I've only just recently went around and appreciated all of the different areas of the game. It has everything. Deserts, country sides, giant cities. All detailed. I love how huge this game is and how diverse the whole place is. The car models are just as pretty. Shining in the light and able to be customized. Not only that, but it has motion blur. May sound like a given now, but this was a feature I was pretty psyched about upon it's release. Not many games had it. I cannot emphasize enough that  this game has everything. -10/10

S- This game's soundtrack is incredible. All of the stations perfectly reflect the time of their respective genres of music. Everything from Alice in Chains to Snoop Dogg is properly here. There's tons of tracks to listen to, each bearing their own forms of nostalgia. It's amazing that I don't find myself getting annoyed with these songs, but with so much to listen to it's hard to. The talk stations are among my favorites. They're a perfect parody of stations like KFI(which is the only thing I listen to on the radio). Aside from the radio stations there's amazing voice actors. There's some really great voice acting along with the gigantically cheesy ones that sound like they were recorded over the phone. But  they all fit together very nicely. -10/10

The Verdict  -10/10
This is a perfect example of the perfect game. It has perfect atmosphere, good graphics, and enough gameplay to keep you coming back for years. I have and will continue to do so. I'm gonna be straight with you right now.. I didn't really like Grand Theft Auto IV. It just felt too serious to me. It lost the charm that San Andreas and all of the previous entries had. The silly nature of the game and the parody just felt lacking. Grand Theft Auto V looks to have brought the locale back in all of it's glory, I just really really hope that the silly attitude returns. And if it doesn't.. There's always Saints Row The Third.

Just in case you missed the GTA:V trailer
