Metal Gear 25th Anniversary Gifts

Alright you guys I have a TON of news to report on that a lot of you may have heard already.


So, last night was the 25th anniversary party for Metal Gear. At this event, a couple of huuuuge announcements were made. We'll go by numbers here :

1 - There's going to be a new Metal Gear game entitled : Metal Gear Solid : Ground Zeroes. Here's just about the only screens we were given -

These images show what appears to be Big Boss in a sneaking suit. Why Big Boss? Well, as plenty have pointed out, there's a tiny strap near the top of his head which is more likely than not connected to an eye patch.

There were a ton of tweets from attendees at the party who were treated to a live demo of Metal Gear Ground Zeroes. Among them were these few :

 "   Demo of "Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes", started w cutscene (all realtime), went into gameplay, open world, night, raining, base. AMAZING   "

"    Sorry for the delayed tweet - distracted by the wine. #MGS Ground Zeroes on Fox Engine - rich detail, open world, and Old Snake is back!   "

There was no recording or photography allowed at the event, so hopefully Konami will release a video showing what they saw sometime soon.

The game is said to be an open world game which,  as you may or may not know,  is a huge departure from the traditional Metal Gear formula (albeit, a very welcome change). A lot of fans are speculating that this game is set sometime in the late 70's/early 80's, and would revolve around Big Boss and Major Zero (obviously..). The game is going to be running on the beautiful Fox engine, which was debuted some time ago. If you missed that video, here it is :

There is no release date yet, but Hideo Kojima stated that it would be "not so much to keep you waiting". So some time after Metal Gear Rising comes out. Think late 2013.

2 - There's going to be a Metal Gear Solid movie.. Let that sink in for a second. I know some may be worried, what with video game movies track record for being, well.. Shit. But Kojima is backing this project 100%, and he wouldn't do that unless he knew it was going to be good. This is evidenced by a Metal Gear movie being tossed around for years now and finally being put on indefinite hold back in 2010. The project is going to be released under Columbia Pictures and produced by Avi Arad, who is most well known for his work on the X-Men films, and Iron Man. He was on stage with Kojima at the event :

"  For many years I fought to bring comics to theater – and video games are the comics of today, "

"  We will take our time and tell the story with all the nuances, ideology, and cautionary tales needed,  "

The movie is said to take place during the Shadow Moses incident (Metal Gear Solid 1). I don't know about you guys, but I think Michael Fassbender would make a great Solid Snake

Damn, you're good looking, Mr. Fassbender.

3 - Finally, Metal Gear : Social Ops. A card based game for mobile platforms.. Yawn.
