Fallout 3, my ass...
Today marks the release of Id software's RAGE! A game that has been in the works since 2007! I have been following along with all of Rage's progress since then and it has remained one of my most anticipated titles ever. I'm excited to say the least. I will be at the midnight release tonight and more than likely end up playing it until this time tomorrow! Id software, if you ever read this.. Know that I have always loved you..
Since the debut of Fallout 3 and Borderlands, people have done nothing but compare Rage to them. While Fallout 3 and Borderlands are both really great games, I truly believe that Rage is going to stomp their sorry asses. Here's why :
How Rage is better than Fallout3 : More intense combat for one. All of the enemies in Rage are a hell of a lot smarter than the SuperMutants and bandits of Fallout 3. They're all unique looking and have unique fighting styles.
There are no copy pasted buildings. Fallout 3 had tons of buildings that were the same as other buildings on the map. The same with the wasteland. A lot of it was just copy pasted textures to sell a sense of scale.
Please don't get me wrong, Bethesda. I love Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas. They're two of my favorite games. But when it comes to post apocalyptic beauty, and intensity; Rage has you beat.
How Rage is better than Borderlands : I think this goes without saying : there won't be 1million different types of the same gun. Again Borderlands is a great game, but the whole "1 million unique weapons" thing was shit. Why would you want to have 1 million of the same gun in your game? Granted, some of the weapons were different : you had shotguns, assault rifles, and sniper rifles, most were pretty much the same model with a different color.
You would think that Borderlands would have it beat in the co op department; and it almost does. But, Rage has it's own cooperative split screen mode as well called Legends of the Wastes. And unlike Borderlands, it will be completely separate from the main story.
How Rage is different from both :
Graphically : First of all. It's not cel-shaded like borderlands, and it has a lot brighter of a color palate than Fallout 3. Not to mention, it's beautiful.

Developer Experience : Id was the pioneer of the first person genre, so if anyone can make a proper first person game it's them. Id is my favorite developer because they always release quality products. I guarantee you that this game has been in production for this long because they're trying to make it the best game that it possibly can be. A lot of developers *COUGHInfinityWardCOUGH* just shit out whatever they can every year to make a buck. Id actually cares about their products. They spent 2 years of the development making sure that the multiplayer feature in their game was simply more fun. I love Id because their in the business to make the best possible game that they can, not the game that's going to make them the most money.
The Dead City : My most anticipated section of Rage.
I think I've presented, at the very least, a decent argument in Rage's favor.
I cannot wait for this game. I know today is going to be the slowest day of the year so far, and I cannot thank you enough for it, Id. I've supported you guys since my first time playing Final Doom on the PS1 back in 96 and will continue to do so! Oh yeah... SHOW US DOOM4 ALREADY!
PS : I'm willing to bet that Rage somehow will tie into the next Doom. Maybe there will be some Doom-related dlc for Rage? I sure-as-shit hope so.
